From Åslaug Berre, conductor/musician/educator, after our Christmas concert:
WHAT a concert tonight, it’s one of the finest I’ve heard in a long time (and I’ve heard a lot).
The choir performs exciting and at times unexpected music, especially the choral arrangements. (Fartein Valen, for example – absolutely unique and fascinating, certainly incredibly demanding!)
YMIR is an incredibly talented and impressive group of singers. They have a truly special unity and a shared choral sound that just fills the room – and us.
The conductor, Tone Bianca Sparre Dahl, possesses a masterful ability to bring out the best in these singers, and with her conducting, she highlights every element of the music. She can confidently be placed among the country’s finest choir conductors.

The chamber choir YMIR
was established in 2018. The choir consists of 24 experienced choir singers and conductors, and is led by Tone Bianca Sparre Dahl. The producer is Lars Christen Hausken.
YMIR is the Old Norse name for the primeval giant, the origin of all life on Earth. It is also the name of one of Saturn’s moons. It’s a powerful name that provides a good description of the choir’s intention, which is to perform at a high level with a short rehearsal period and a shared passion: the grand and beautiful choral music written in the 20th century.
We are proud and happy to have been awarded funds from project and operational grants in 2020, which are given to choirs at a very high level. Thanks to the Norwegian government for investing in choirs!
